Our History

Amberfield started to take shape in the mid to late 80s with the help of two developers: Milton and Ryan Homes. Like much of Gaithersburg back in the day, the 394-unit townhomes were built on wide open and majestic fields—fields of amber. Just down the street, on Muddy Branch Road, between Great Seneca Highway and Darnestown Road, is Belward Farm—one of the last remaining pieces of undeveloped farmland left in the Gaithersburg/Rockville area. The lush 138 acres were relentlessly protected by owner Elizabeth Beall Banks until she sold her property to Johns Hopkins University just before her death on January 17, 2005. Read her story here.
